So it has been awhile

[This picture was taken at my brother Jeremiah's wedding, and it will be our engagement picture as soon as I print it out and send it in.]

Hi everyone. I know it has been a very long time since we've last posted, but college is very time consuming. There are a few things that deserve sharing though.

The wedding plans are going well. It's August 9th at 2 PM at
Faith Fellowship of Watertown. The reception will be on the top floor of the Dulles State Office building.

We went to look at an
apartment today. It was quite nice, and in our price range, so we were very excited. The current tenant moves out on July 31st, which is perfect for us. We decided [after many hours of research done by me] that we wouldn't find a better deal, so we told her we would take it. She'll get back to us after she does our credit checks, which will hopefully go through without a problem.

Michael is done with school and is hanging around SLU for a Trustee's meeting this weekend. I'm almost done with finals and will be heading home on Friday.

Okay, I'm out of things to report, and I should really get back to my Topology work. Thanks for reading!

[Our schedules are all worked out for next fall in case you're interested.]

I think I found my wedding dress!!

I wanted straps - it's strapless.
I wanted a certain color - it's a different one.
I wanted a long train - it has a short one.

It's nothing like what I was looking for...

And yet better than I could have hoped for.

Funny how that keeps happening to me... :-D

Why's Your name offensive?

I recently went on a trip with a group of students and teachers from Potsdam. On the way back, we decided to listen to comedy routines on someone's iPod to pass the time. I'm sure this comes as a shock to no one, but some of those routines disgusted me. I sat in that van while everyone around me laughed at some of the most disgusting rants I had ever heard. I found it odd that I was the only one who was uncomfortable or offended with the material.

I put my own iPod on, and did not think about it for awhile. Eventually the person ran out of comedians, so the copilot decided that we would just listen to the radio. I took my iPod off and sat there talking to Tiffany. Every once in a while, the station would lose its signal, and my teacher would have to switch to a new one. One of these times, he stopped at a station where the song was coming in clearly. He stopped, as was his custom. I immediately recognized the song, but it took everyone else a bit longer to realize what the song was about - we had stopped on KLove. I have never heard a group of people get more quiet, more quickly than these people did. As soon as the word "Jesus" came through the speakers, everyone stopped talking and a very awkward silence enveloped us. The professor all-to-quickly reached to change the station - he wouldn't want anyone to be offended. The conversation level eventually returned to normal as everyone recovered from their close encounter with Christianity.

Why do people get so offended with the name Jesus? Why are they okay with listening to "100 words you can't say on TV," but when "Lord. I lift Your Name on High" comes on, everyone is very concerned about someone in the van being offended by the topic?

I hope that I'm never okay with listening to the smut that this world calls entertainment.
I hope that I'm never discouraged from talking to someone about Christ just because they think it's taboo.

"Keep Quiet"

Oh the things I've been sacrificed
So that I could bring You to this world
I want them to see You in me
But Your name just keeps them far from me
So I'll keep quiet
Let's hope they see I'm different

Jesus, Jesus how Your name offends us
Why are we so scared to tell this world You've saved us
When all of the hope of the world's in Your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh Jesus

If I avoid to speak Your name
Tell me would You do the same to me
If relevance becomes my goal
Tell me will I lose You to its hold
Bus if I keep quit they'll never see I'm different

Jesus, Jesus how Your name offends us
Why are we so scared to tell this world You've saved us
When all of the hope of this world's in Your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh Jesus

I'm sorry I've cared about my name more than Yours
I'm so sorry how could I hide You anymore
But if I keep quiet
They'll never see I'm different

Jesus, Jesus how Your name offends us
Why are we so scared to tell this world You've saved us
When all of the hope of the world's in Your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh, Jesus

The Best Night of my Life!

Last night Mike and I went to a park next to the river in Potsdam. We danced under the stars while he sang "Build me up Buttercup." He told me how much he loved me. There was talk about a powerpoint presentation. We laughed. Sarah texted me. I spent the next five minutes trying to figure out what she sent me. Then I realized that I should be paying attention to Mike. He talked some more. He was very, very sweet, and he made me smile a lot a lot. He got down on one knee and asked me if I would like to spend the rest of my life with him. I said I would love to. Then we laughed 'till we cried. Okay, only I cried, but "We laughed 'till I cried" isn't as good an expression.
This story is much better when told in person...I'm afraid I just cannot do it justice here. So if you want to smile, you should have me tell you the whole story in person.

I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend in the whole world! :-D :-D
